Employment Training Program

Eligibility

Career Connections’ Employment Training Program is available to adults (18 +) who are referred by a referral agent such as their Employability Assistance for Persons with Disabilities (EAPD) counsellor, Manitoba Possible, Vision Loss MB, Spinal Cord Injury Canada (formerly the Canadian Paraplegic Association), or Prairie Mountain Health – Mental Health Counsellor. A formal diagnosis is required.

Assistance and activities

The Employment Training Program can help with employment activities such as:

  • coaching trainees on how to prepare for and deal with job interview;
  • developing work performance skills such as following directions, staying on task, making decisions, and use and care of equipment;
  • speed, appearance, punctuality, self-expression and relations with co- workers and supervisors.

We also provide the necessary supervisory resources to monitor the development and work activities of the participants by which aptitudes and behaviours are shaped conducive to satisfactory work performance.

We can assist participants with counselling focused on job search techniques, and provide the necessary supports to assist participants to access other employment services that could provide job placement assistance (e.g. Service Canada and Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) ).

We strive to provide ongoing support to the participants, and as-required assisting, coordinating and monitoring of the participant’s progress securing employment.

Pre-employment activities will focus on:

  • attendance, work ethics, work habits, attitudes about work, and the importance of respect for employer regulations and requests;
  • providing job development to meet individuals’ strengths and employers’ needs, including interview supports;
  • arranging and/or providing on-site job coaching supports and building natural supports;
  • providing follow-up supports to facilitate job retention;
  • conducting an annual participant review of progress and service needs by/with the employer.
  • weekly one-on-one meetings with participants.

Each participant is encouraged to set personal goals and to complete a personal job plan.
